Cards-on-File is a phrase used to describe having a payment method stored so that users do not have to re-enter their information upon checkout. It can also be used for automated billing and invoicing. A card-on-file could be any type of payment method such as a credit card, debit card, PayPal account, or bank account, etc. What types of payment methods are supported depends on your own merchant settings and features that CivicPlus has integrated.
- CivicPlus does not store any card holder data.
During the CP Pay checkout the process, when a user goes to enter their card information, they are entering this information directly into fields or a page hosted by the payment gateway. The gateway then returns a token to CP Pay that can be used to charge the user in the future.
